The “Rethinking Everything” Summer Camp, jointly organized by Ibn Haldun University and the Association for Psychology and Psychotherapy Research, was held on August 4–6. Addressing psychology from the perspective of the Islamic intellectual tradition, the camp offered an intensive environment of academic discussion and exchange over three days. The first day began at the Association’s headquarters with an opening session by our faculty member from the Department of Psychology, Assist. Prof. Taha Burak Toprak, entitled “Rethinking Our Understanding of the Self.” The second and third days of the camp were hosted by our university and featured sessions such as “Rethinking Our Sources of Knowledge,” “Rethinking Our Understanding of Guidance,” “Rethinking Our Understanding of the Universe,” “Rethinking Life and Death,” and “Rethinking Maturation,” along with experience-sharing and discussion sessions.
In the sessions, fundamental topics such as self, knowledge, guidance, the universe, life, and death were discussed within the framework of the Islamic intellectual tradition. The limitations of existing paradigms in psychology and psychotherapy were critically assessed, and alternative perspectives were developed in light of the insights offered by the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Participants also examined how the Islamic conception of the human being can provide guidance for processes of personal development, transformation, and maturation.
The program concluded with a camp evaluation and Q&A session led by Assist. Prof. Taha Burak Toprak, followed by a signing event. Participants expressed their satisfaction with the organization, noting that the camp had been insightful and productive.
